Introduction
Li Lianshui, a native of Zhenhai (Zhejiang Province), now part of Beilun District in Ningbo, was the second son of Li Bi’an. In the second year of Guangxu (1876), he entered the official ranks as a jinshi in the Bingzi division, served as a mid-level official in the Ministry of Revenue, was later granted the title of Tongfeng Daifu, and rose to a fourth-rank metropolitan official. During his tenure, he associated with Sheng Xuanhuai, Kang Youwei, Tan Sitong, and others, and supported the Reform. At the cusp of the late Qing and early Republican era, he left office to go into business, entering the commercial world, gradually accumulating wealth and becoming a magnate.
