Introduction
George Augustus Clavering-Cowper, 4th Earl Cowper, was born in Florence, Italy, on August 9, 1776, and died on February 12, 1799. He was a British nobleman.
His father was the 3rd Earl Cowper, George Nassaa Clavering-Cowper (circa 1740 – December 22, 1789), and his mother was Hannah Anne Gore. Hannah Anne Gore was born around 1758 and died on September 5, 1826. She was the daughter of Charles Gore.
George Augustus Clavering-Cowper inherited the earldom of Cowper in 1789 upon the death of his father.
Regarding his education, he entered St. John’s College, Cambridge, on May 18, 1793, and obtained a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in 1795.
His public roles included being appointed deputy lieutenant of Hertfordshire in 1797 and deputy lieutenant of Kent in 1798.
He died of pulmonary hemorrhage at Cole Green on February 12, 1799, and was buried at Hertingfordbury on February 19 of the same year.
Having remained unmarried throughout his life, his younger brother, Peter Leopold Louis Francis Nassau Clavering-Cowper, succeeded to the earldom.
