Olwen Elizabeth Lloyd George

Lady Olwen Elizabeth Carey Evans (née Lloyd George) was born on 3 April 1892 at Bryn Awelon, Criccieth, Wales. She was the third child of David Lloyd George, who served as a Member of Parliament and later as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, and his wife Margaret.

In 1917, she married Captain Thomas Carey Evans at the Welsh Baptist Church in Westminster, London. Her husband was born in 1884 and died in 1947. He served as a surgeon in the Indian Medical Service and was awarded the Military Cross in 1916. He was knighted in 1924. After leaving the army in 1926, he worked as a surgeon in London and became the first medical superintendent of Hammersmith Hospital in 1936. The couple had four children: Margaret, Eiluned, Robert, and David.

During the First World War, Lady Olwen served with the British Red Cross Society as part of the Voluntary Aid Detachment. She also served as a cook on the Western Front. For her service, she was awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal.

Throughout her life, Lady Olwen was involved in various charitable activities. She held honorary or local presidencies for organizations including the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, the Royal Society for the Blind, and the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.

In recognition of her public services to Wales, she was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 1969 Investiture Honours.

In 1985, she published a memoir titled "Lloyd George was My Father," which provides an autobiographical account of her life and family. Lady Olwen Carey Evans passed away on 2 March 1990 at her farm Eisteddfa near Criccieth. Her death followed a short illness, and she was the last surviving child of David Lloyd George.
