Ling Gu (1988 – March 18, 2012), courtesy name Qiao, alias Wang Ziyun, is the son of Ling Plan and Gu Liping. He entered the School of International Relations at Peking University in 2007 and, after graduating in 2011, was recommended for graduate studies at the School of Education to pursue a master's degree.
In the early morning of March 18, 2012, Ling Gu was involved in a car accident while driving a Ferrari in Haidian District, Beijing, and died. Two Tibetan women were severely injured, and subsequently died from their injuries. The incident attracted widespread attention; details of the crash were strictly sealed off, but foreign media reported multiple details of the scandal involving prominent figures, including that all three involved were naked and that family members were silenced.
The car accident derailed Ling Plan's political career; he was transferred to serve as the Minister of the United Front Work Department, but was eventually investigated for disciplinary violations and sentenced.
