Introduction
Princess Anne Eleonore of Hesse-Darmstadt was born on 30 July 1601 in Darmstadt, Hesse, Germany. She was the daughter of Louis V, Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt, and Magdalena von Brandenburg.
On 14 December 1617, she married George, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg, in Darmstadt. The marriage produced several children, including:
- Magdalene, who was born and died on 9 August 1620.
- Christian Ludwig (1622–1665), who held titles of Prince of Calenberg from 1641 to 1648 and Prince of Lüneburg from 1648 to 1665.
- Georg Wilhelm (1624–1705), who was Prince of Calenberg from 1648 to 1665 and Prince of Lüneburg from 1665 to 1705.
- Johann Friedrich (1625–1679), Prince of Calenberg from 1665 until 1679.
- Sophie Amalie (1628–1685), who married King Frederick III of Denmark.
- Dorothea Magdalene, born in 1629 and died on 17 November 1630.
- Ernst Augustus (1629–1698), who was Prince of Calenberg from 1679 until 1698 and was the father of King George I of Great Britain.
- Anna Marie Eleonore (20 November 1630 – 13 November 1636).
Princess Anne Eleonore died at Herzberg Castle in Lower Saxony, Germany, on 6 May 1659, aged 57.
