Introduction
Consort Wang (15th century – 1532), related by marriage to Xingxian Prince Zhu Youyan, was the mother of Princess Shanhua and the stepmother of Ming Shizong Zhu Houzhao. The exact year of her birth is not recorded in historical texts. On June 28, 1503, Madam Wang gave birth to a second daughter for Prince Xingxian Zhu Youyan, who was later posthumously titled Princess Shanhua. Her daughter died at the age of ten. In 1521, Emperor Ming Wuzong died; due to having no children and no surviving brothers, the throne was succeeded by Zhu Houzhao, son of Prince Xingxian Zhu Youyan. Zhu Youyan had died two years earlier than Ming Wuzong. Ultimately, his son Zhu Houzhao ascended the throne as Ming Shizong. Zhu Youyan was posthumously honored as Ming Ruisong; his birth mother, Lady Jiang, was titled Empress Dowager, and his stepmother, Consort Wang, was honored as Rumei Shufei. In August 1532, Consort Wang passed away and was given the posthumous title Wenjing Shufei. Emperor Ming Shizong issued a mourning edict reducing court duties for three days and decreed that her funeral be conducted according to the precedent of Empress Dowager Bao Xian of Ming Xianzong.
