Introduction

Princess Shanhua, a Ming Dynasty princess, was born on July 21, 1503, and died on May 15, 1512, at the age of ten. She was an illegitimate daughter of Xingxian Prince Zhu Youyan, her mother being a royal concubine from the Wang clan. Her father, Zhu Youyan, was a member of the Ming imperial family. Princess Shanhua never married. She was born in the 16th year of Hongzhi (1503) and passed away in the 7th year of Zhengde (1512). In the 4th year of Jiajing (1525), Emperor Shizong posthumously conferred upon her the title of Chang Princess. Also posthumously honored alongside her were her half-brother, King Yue Huai, and Changning Chang Princess. In March of the 7th year of Jiajing, Emperor Shizong ordered the Ministry of Works to construct the princess's tomb hall, sacrificial vessels, epitaphs, and steles.
