Introduction

Qin Moya, born in May 1933, father Bo Gu, mother Liu Qunxian. She was Bo Gu’s eldest daughter. Less than a month after birth, she was placed in foster care at her aunt’s home, and eight people in total — her aunt’s six other children plus herself — crowded into a dark little building of about three to four square meters. After completing primary school, she dropped out to help support the family, working as a child laborer in a factory run by Japanese and helping with laundry for others. Later, a man from Chongqing deceived her with the pretext of “helping her find her mother” and she became a maid at his home. In 1950, Zhang Yuexia invited personnel from the Central Organization Department to return her to Beijing. Thereafter she studied at and graduated from Beijing Normal University. From 1961 to 1981, she taught at Beijing No. 1 Middle School, in charge of the education of the entire school’s students. Beginning in September 1981, she transferred to the Beijing Normal University branch campus to teach, also serving as secretary of the Chinese Department’s Party branch, and was awarded the rank of associate professor. After retiring in 1988, she successively served as vice president and professor at the Language Institute of the China University of Science and Technology Management and at Beijing University of Science and Technology College, teaching university Chinese until 2001. Her father was Bo Gu, her mother Liu Qunxian. On December 16, 2017, at 0:53, Qin Moya died from multiple cancers and respiratory failure, aged 84. The family stated that, in accordance with the deceased’s wishes, no memorial service would be held, and a sea burial would be arranged on a chosen date.
