Introduction

Wang Jing, born in the Liaobei area of Liaoning Province, China, worked early on as an actress in a local Pingju (a form of traditional Chinese opera) troupe, performing traditional opera. Her exact birth date is not recorded in detail, but her age has been reported as 82, with the specific year not specified.

In her career, Wang Jing was mainly active as a Pingju actress in China’s traditional opera circle. In June 2018 she was invited to the “Juedai Fanghua — 2018 National Pingju Hall of Fame Senior Artists Charity Concert.” That concert aimed to pass on Pingju art; Wang Jing performed two Pingju excerpts, “Night Trial — Zhou Ziqin” and “Yi Hai Shenchen” (roughly “Profound Seas of Art”), and the proceeds from the performance were used to support projects for preserving opera culture.

Family-wise, Wang Jing is related to Pan Changjiang. Pan Changjiang is a well-known Chinese comedian; Wang Jing played an important role in influencing him and guiding him onto an artistic path. Reports say that after Pan became famous he brought his mother to live in Beijing and provided for her. In November 2022, Pan Changjiang held a simple, warm 86th birthday banquet for his mother, Wang Jing.

There have also been reports concerning mother-in-law/daughter-in-law relations. On the 2015 Shandong TV variety show “Meiwei Xing: Mother-in-law & Daughter-in-law” she revealed Pan Changjiang’s early romantic experiences, including two failed relationships attributed to his height. She mentioned that because her daughter-in-law Yang Yun apprenticed in Pingju, this helped form the family’s marital ties. On that show Wang Jing and Yang Yun competed in a cooking contest, demonstrating a good mother-in-law/daughter-in-law relationship.

Regarding public appearances, during the 2015 variety show Wang Jing took part in a “family status test” segment and shared anecdotes from Pan Changjiang’s childhood, noting his performing talent and ability to make everyone in the courtyard laugh. In the same recording Pan attempted to swallow 50 small cherry tomatoes within one minute; Wang Jing was present throughout, showing her support and concern.

In summary, Wang Jing, as an important inheritor of Pingju art, has been involved in traditional opera performance, charity concerts, and public disclosures about family relationships, providing the public with multiple perspectives on her personal and artistic life.
