Introduction

William Dundas (1762 – 14 November 1845) was a Scottish politician. He was the son of Robert Dundas of Arniston, the younger. In 1788, he qualified as a barrister at Lincoln's Inn.

Dundas served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for multiple constituencies over his political career. His parliamentary service included representing the Anstruther Burghs from 1794 to 1796, the Northern Burghs from 1796 to 1802, Sutherland in 1802 and again in 1806, Cullen in 1810, and Edinburgh from 1812 to 1831.

He was appointed to the Privy Council in 1800. Dundas held the office of Secretary at War from 1804 to 1806. In 1812, he was named a Lord Commissioner of the Admiralty. He was appointed Keeper of the Signet in 1814 and later became Lord Clerk Register in 1821.
