Introduction

Songgotu (Manchu: ᠰᠤᠨᡤᠣᡨᡠ᠋, transcribed as Songgotu; 1612–1646), also rendered as Songguotu or Conggulun, was the eighth daughter of Nurhaci, the founding emperor of the Qing Dynasty. Her mother was Consort Chuoqi, and historical records suggest her mother may have been the sister of Empress Xiaoci Gong of Menggu Zhe. Some scholars believe that they were maternal raised relatives.

Songgotu was born on the seventh day of the twelfth month, in the fortieth year of the Wanli era (1612), during the hour of Xu, which according to contemporary customs is called "Songgotu Gege" (Princess Songgotu).

On the sixteenth day of the first month, in the tenth year of the Tianming era (1625), Songgotu Gege married Gurushih, a member of the Boshigol tribe, and was granted the title of Hešuo Gongzhu (Heshuo Princess). Another historical source states that in the first year of Chongde (1636), she was enfeoffed as one of the seven princesses by Emperor Taiji. There are discrepancies in the records concerning her enfeoffment; some texts mention that after her enfeoffment she received imperial edicts and followed imperial rituals, and also discuss her maternal ancestral connection to Emperor Taiji. These accounts reflect various theories and debates over the timing and reasons for her enfeoffment.

In the third year of the Shunzhi era (1646), the Heshuo Princess passed away at the age of thirty-five.
