Introduction

Kyo Tanaka (born in 1951–) is a Japanese culinary researcher, music critic, musician, and author. His father was former Prime Minister Kakuei Tanaka. He was born in Shinjuku, Tokyo. His father was born as the eldest son of Kakuei Tanaka and geisha Kazuko Tsuji in Kagurazaka.

His educational background includes attending Keio University Junior High School, then enrolling in Nihon University Toyama High School, graduating from there, and subsequently entering Nihon University College of Law. After graduating from university, he worked at a record company, where he was involved in activities related to the first visits of Aerosmith and Cheap Trick to Japan.

In 1996, he opened a bar called "EARL'S COURT" in Ginza 7-chome, which closed in 2007. Since then, he has mainly been engaged in writing and lecturing. On May 23, 2018, he established the Kakuei Tanaka Peace Memorial Foundation and currently serves as its president.

Regarding family relations, his mother, Kazuko Tsuji, was Kakuei Tanaka’s mistress, and they had two sons and one daughter. He is recognized as one of the brothers alongside his younger brother Yuu. His daughter Masa died young. His half-sister, Makiko Tanaka, was not comfortable with the existence of half-siblings and did not permit their incense offerings at their father’s funeral.

His younger brother Yuu worked for the Seibu Group in the early 1990s and later established a planning company, which ended in failure. After Kakuei Tanaka’s death in 1993, Yuu sued Kyo over inheritance but lost the case. As of 2021, he resides in Oizumi Gakuen, Nerima Ward, Tokyo, and is living on public assistance. He is unmarried.

Other activities include working on music event planning during his record company days and serving as the founder and chairman of the Nihon University Tanaka Kakuei Peace Memorial Foundation.

His publications include memoirs related to his father Kakuei Tanaka, such as "Kizuna – Father Kakuei Tanaka’s Passionate Hand" (2004, Fusosha) and "My Father, Kakuei Tanaka – A Man Among Men" (July 1, 2016, Aorin-do).
