Introduction
Liao Zhuben, born in the late 19th century, his exact year of birth is not specified. His ancestral home is in Xingfu Village, Chenjiang Town, Huiyang District, Guangdong. He is a descendant of Liao Hua, the progenitor of the Yongding Liao family, and belongs to the distant ancestral clan of Liao Zhongkai. The family has a certain historical heritage in the Guangdong area since the late Song and early Yuan dynasties. They once followed Wen Tianxiang in resisting the Yuan invasion and guarded Meixian, where they are regarded as the founding ancestors of Meixian.
Liao Zhuben’s father was Liao Jingchang, and his family included an uncle, Liao Chengchang. During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, the family migrated from Meixian to Huiyang and later engaged in commerce in Hong Kong. His mother was a Yang, and her family was well-off.
In terms of early education, Liao Zhuben studied at St. Paul’s College in Hong Kong. After graduating, he worked at HSBC Bank in Hong Kong and was later transferred to San Francisco, USA, where he managed HSBC's business operations, demonstrating notable professional achievement. Family-wise, he married a woman from the Liang family and had three sons and one daughter. His children included his eldest son, Liao Entao; his second son, Liao Enxi (later known as Liao Zhongkai); his third son, Liao Enxun; and his daughter, Liao Jingyi.
In 1893, at the age of 16, Liao Zhongkai returned to China with his parents, escorting his father's coffin from Hong Kong back to his ancestral homeland in Guangdong. After arriving in Hong Kong, under the arrangements of his uncle Liao Zhigang, the coffin was transported back to Shen County, Yazi Pu Township (now Xingfu Village, Chenjiang Street, Zhongkai High-tech Zone, Huizhou, Guangdong). This migration marked the family’s re-establishment of roots within China.
Liao Zhuben’s family connections are well documented, with descendants including grandson Liao Chengzhi; granddaughter Liao Mengxing; great-grandchildren Liao Hui, Liao Chun, Liao Ping, Liao Jun, Liao Yang, and Liao Deqiang. The family’s history and lineage have been preserved across multiple generations, making it one of the prominent Liao families in Guangdong.
