Introduction
Liao Zhongkai, a native of Ya Zhipu Yaoqian Village (now Xingfu Village, Chenjiang Town, Huiyang District, Huizhou City), Guangdong Province, is a descendant of Liao Hua, the ancestor of the Yongding Liao family, and is their 26th-generation grandson. His family has a long history, tracing back to the late Song and early Yuan periods. Liao Hua's fifth grandson, Liao Zhuyuan, once lived in the Ximenkou Cicao Pavilion in Yongding County. Due to his participation in resisting the Yuan invasion and following Wen Tianxiang, he guarded Meixian and is regarded as the founding ancestor of Meixian.
Liao Zhongkai's grandfather was named Liao Jinchang (also known as Liao Jingchang). During the Daze years of the Qing Dynasty, he migrated from Meixian to Xingfu Village, Chenjiang Town, Huiyang District. Among his family members, Liao Jinchang and his wife, Yang, had two sons — Liao Zhuben and Liao Zhugang. Liao Zhuben received education at St. Paul’s College in Hong Kong in his early years, then worked at the HSBC bank in Hong Kong, and during his career, he represented HSBC in San Francisco, USA. The family was relatively well-off financially. After marriage, he married Liang, and they had three sons and one daughter: the eldest son Liao Entao, the second son Liao Enxi (later Liao Zhongkai), the third son Liao Enxun, and the daughter Liao Jingyi.
Liao Zhongkai’s descendants include his grandchildren Liao Enhao, Liao Enxun, and granddaughter Liao Jingyi. Among his grandchildren, Liao Chengzhi and Liao Mengxing are his great-grandson and great-granddaughter.
Overall, the Liao Zhongkai family history spans multiple historical periods, involving migrations and occupational changes across various regions. Family members have held certain notable positions and exerted influence in their respective fields.
