Ding Yumei, born in January 1957, is from Henan Province, China, and was raised in an ordinary working-class family. She graduated in 1982 from Wuhan Iron and Steel Institute (now Wuhan University of Science and Technology), majoring in metallurgy, earning a bachelor's degree with the help of scholarships. After graduation, she worked at the Wugang Steel Plant in Henan, and in 1983, she married Xu Jiayin, who was also employed at the same factory.
In the early 1990s, Ding Yumei and Xu Jiayin moved to Shenzhen and began their working lives there. During this period, she was responsible for family affairs, caring for her husband and children, and shelved some career pursuits. In 1996, Ding Yumei became the sole shareholder, chairman, and general manager of Guangzhou Evergrande Industrial Group Co., Ltd., holding 100% ownership. According to disclosures when Evergrande Culture listed on the New Third Board, she controlled approximately 6% of China Evergrande, with her shareholding valued at about 21 billion RMB (as of 2017).
Financial reports authored by Ding Yumei indicate that her wealth mainly derives from her holdings in Evergrande Group. Starting from 2017, she appeared multiple times on the Hurun Women Entrepreneurs List, with her net worth gradually rising, reaching a peak of about 21 billion RMB. In 2018, she made her first appearance on the Hurun Women Entrepreneurs List, ranking 16th in wealth. Her ranking fluctuated in subsequent years, becoming 26th in 2019, with an estimated fortune of 17 billion RMB.
Regarding her family, Ding Yumei and Xu Jiayin have two sons. Their eldest son, Xu Zhijian, graduated from Tsinghua University with a master's degree in business administration; their younger son is named Xu Tenghe. Both were raised by her. Reports have mentioned that her personal life has experienced family upheavals, including a "technical divorce" from Xu Jiayin.
In 2022, Ding Yumei and Xu Jiayin completed their divorce proceedings. In recent years, she has been residing overseas and holds Canadian citizenship. As of February 2025, Ding Yumei requested the court to clarify her asset utilization scope in legal proceedings; some of her applications were rejected. Her financial situation and family relationships continue to attract public attention.
