Introduction
Prince Xiu Huai Zhu Jianshu (March 12, 1452 – October 13, 1472), the fifth illegitimate son of Emperor Yingzong of Ming, Zhu Qizhen. His mother was Consort Rongshu Hao, of the Zhuangjing An family. He was the first and only Prince Xiu of the Ming Dynasty.
Zhu Jianshu was born on February 21, 1452, during the third year of the Jing Tai era. He was bestowed the title Prince Xiu on March 6, 1457, in the first year of the Tianshun reign. On September 7, 1470 (the seventh day of the ninth month of the sixth year of the Chenghua era), he was enfeoffed and took up residence at Ruzhou Prefecture. After reigning for fifteen years, he died on September 12, 1472 (the twelfth day of the ninth month of the eighth year of the Chenghua era) at the age of twenty, with the posthumous title Huai. His burial site is in Jinshan; the location is now in Long'en Si Community, Wulituo Street, Shijingshan District, at Xiu Mansion Village. He was buried alongside his consort, Lady Huang.
Regarding his family, Lady Huang was born on the ninth day of the third month of 1453 and died on the ninth day of the fifth month of 1473. She was a niece of Consort Huang, the favored imperial consort of Emperor Renzong. After her death, she was buried with Zhu Jianshu at Jinshan. Her tomb stele was unearthed north of Xiu Mansion Village. Zhu Jianshu had no children but had one daughter, known as Princess Shunyi, who was raised within the palace.
