Introduction
Wu Ruixuan, born in 1999, is the son of well-known Taiwanese entertainer Wu Zongxian; his mother is Zhang Weiwei, and he has an older sister, Wu Shanru. In his family, his father Wu Zongxian is a famous Taiwanese host, singer, and producer with high public recognition. Wu Ruixuan’s family background placed him in the public eye of the entertainment industry from a young age.
In his teenage years, Wu Ruixuan gradually entered the entertainment world and explored multiple directions. On August 19, 2018, he posted an Instagram Story that included a remark about his girlfriend, saying, “If my girlfriend doesn’t get better, I’ll make a bomb to blow up the Taipei City Government so the whole nation will apologize.” After media coverage, the comment drew widespread attention and was alleged to have violated the Criminal Code’s provisions on threatening the public.
After the incident, Taiwanese media widely reported on Wu Zongxian’s response at a press conference, where he criticized his son’s behavior and demanded that he quit the entertainment industry. Subsequently, Wu Ruixuan’s girlfriend’s identity was exposed — she was confirmed to be an advertising model known as “Shui’er,” who resembles Japanese actress Kiko Mizuhara. The couple had been dating for two years and had Wu Zongxian’s approval.
On August 30, 2018, while recording a variety show, Wu Ruixuan announced plans to form his own studio and continue pursuing his music dreams. Although his father had previously expressed dissatisfaction and asked him to leave the entertainment industry, he said he would persist in his musical ambitions and strive for independence.
On December 25, 2021, while celebrating Christmas at a nightclub, Wu Ruixuan was detected by police as having a strong odor of marijuana and was arrested in the early hours of December 26. He was later released on bail and appeared in court for questioning on March 11, 2022. Police investigation showed that he had been smoking a marijuana joint at the club, and drug tests confirmed a positive result for a Class-2 controlled substance. Wu claimed he unintentionally inhaled a cigarette handed to him by a friend and denied prior knowledge, but he was nevertheless found to have violated relevant drug-control regulations under the law.
On April 14, 2022, in an interview Wu Ruixuan apologized for past controversial incidents, especially expressing guilt over the burden it placed on his sister Wu Shanru. With the court’s decision to grant a one-year deferred prosecution for possession of a Class-2 controlled substance, on condition of paying a fine of NT$100,000, the related legal procedures came to a close.
Wu Ruixuan’s experiences reflect the multiple challenges he has faced in personal growth and public life, and how his family background has influenced his public image.
