Xi Mingze (born June 25, 1992), nicknamed Muzi, is the only daughter of Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party, and his wife, renowned soprano Peng Liyuan.
She was born at the Fuzhou Maternity and Child Health Care Hospital in Fujian Province. Her name, given by her grandfather Xi Zhongxun, carries the meaning 'enlightened world, benefiting the people,' symbolizing the hope that she would live with integrity and contribute to society.
Xi Mingze received a high-quality education from an early age. She attended Beijing Jingshan School for primary education and studied at Hangzhou Foreign Language School from 2003 to 2009 for her middle and high school years. In August 2009, she enrolled at Zhejiang University’s College of Foreign Languages, majoring in simultaneous interpretation. She later studied abroad at Harvard University under the pseudonym Chu Chen, reportedly completing her undergraduate degree between 2010 and 2014. During her time in the U.S., she kept an extremely low profile, avoided social media, and was closely protected by Chinese security personnel and U.S. agencies. In 2019, she reportedly returned to the U.S. to pursue further graduate studies.
Xi Mingze has shown interest in public service and charity. In 2008, after the Wenchuan earthquake, she volunteered for seven days at Hanwang Dongqi Primary School in Mianzhu, Sichuan, assisting with rescue and psychological counseling. In 2015, she accompanied her parents to Liangjiahe Village, Yan’an County, Shaanxi Province, to take part in Lunar New Year celebrations.
Her hobbies include fashion and reading, and she is known for maintaining a low-profile lifestyle. In June 2025, during Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko’s visit to China, Xi Mingze made her first appearance at a family banquet attended by a foreign leader, joining her parents at the event, which drew wide attention.
As the daughter of China’s top leader, Xi Mingze carries the weight of her family’s legacy, while her international education and discreet demeanor have continued to attract public and media interest.
