Introduction
Zeng Baoyi, born February 21, 1973, in Kowloon, Hong Kong, China. Her father is Eric Tsang (Zeng Zhiwei), a Hong Kong actor, director, screenwriter, producer and presenter; her mother Wang Meihua was also a singer. Zeng Baoyi has a younger brother Zeng Guoxiang, who was an actor and later became a director. She also has a sister Zeng Yongyi and a younger brother Zeng Guoyou.
Early life: At age three, after her parents divorced, she moved with her two-year-old sister to Taipei, Taiwan, where they were raised by their grandparents. She attended a Catholic boarding school in secondary school. In 1991 she was admitted to the Department of Sociology at National Taiwan University. While there she worked behind the scenes in the university drama club and served as an executive producer in the television planning department of Zhenyan She, beginning her exposure to the entertainment industry.
In 1994 Zeng Baoyi gave up a promising path in sociology at National Taiwan University and went to Hong Kong to start an entertainment career. She explored various roles from planner, on-set script supervisor, assistant, production staff to assistant director and assistant host. Her strong performance as an assistant host led to a contract with veteran entertainment host Chang Hsiao-yen (Zhang Xiaoyan), making her one of the new generation of hosts.
Career milestones: In 1996 she officially debuted by acting in the film Four 32As and a Banana Boy (directed by Eric Tsang). The following year she served as assistant director on the film Self-Combing (1997). In the same year she appeared in the film I Love You (directed by Li Rengang) and worked as an assistant host on the highly rated Taiwanese TV show Super Sunday. She also took part in the talk show Hot Talk (Qiang Qiang San Ren Xing).
In the 2000s Zeng Baoyi released several music albums, including A-Bao (1999), Wanting to Love (2000) and Our Fairy Tale (2001). She expanded into television drama with roles in productions such as Love under Signal No.8 (2002), Streetlight (2003) and The Silly King’s Adventures (2004). Her work diversified across hosting, acting, music and publishing.
From 2005 to 2008 she continued to work in both Taiwan and Hong Kong, appearing in TV dramas such as The Bear Doctor’s Family and Swinging Girl, and publishing a cookbook series titled A-Bao’s Beautiful Soups. She also participated in costume dramas and comedy films, and collaborated with her mother on published work.
Around 2009 she gradually reduced her film and TV work and focused more on variety shows and reality programs. During this period she received multiple nominations and honors for hosting and film/TV work, including nominations for the Golden Bell Awards for variety show hosting and the Asian Rainbow Awards for Best Female Host. She has also been active in cultural and social charity work, frequently participating in benefit performances and public welfare activities.
In recent years she has remained active in television, film and variety shows, and has been involved in documentaries and event hosting. In 2024 she participated in the program 2024 Snooker Fashion Night, which began airing in August, and a film she helped produce, Love City Affairs, was released in Taiwan and Hong Kong in August 2024.
