Introduction

Zhu Nan, the twenty-sixth son of Ming Taizu Zhu Yuanzhang, was born to Empress Ge. He was born on January 4, 1394, and died within a month of his birth. His birth was recorded as occurring in the twenty-sixth year of Hongwu, on the December Guiyou day (January 4, 1394). He was not posthumously awarded any titles. The History of Ming states that he “died within a month.” According to Volume 88 of the Yan Shan Tang Miscellaneous Collection, after the Jingnan Campaign, in the fourth year of the Jianwen era (1402), Zhu Di mentioned the fate of his brothers in a letter, noting that “the twenty-fifth brother, upon death, was burned, and his bones were cast into the river.” Since the twenty-fifth son of Ming Taizu, King Yi Zhu 㰘, still existed at that time, the “twenty-fifth brother” refers to Zhu Nan.
