Introduction
Kenji Nakamura (November 23, 1903 – July 30, 1984) was a Japanese biologist who was active in the fields of zoology, developmental biology, and cell biology. He was an emeritus professor at Kyoto University and held a Doctor of Science degree.
Regarding his early life and family background, it is known that he was the sixth son of Baron Yujiro Nakamura and a younger brother of Kanji Nakamura.
Nakamura’s academic activities include research on chromosomes during cell division and taxonomic studies of reptiles. In these fields, he served as secretary and conference chair of relevant academic societies.
At Kyoto University, he worked as an associate professor in the Department of Zoology from March 8, 1946, until May 29, 1949. He then served as a full professor in the same department from May 30, 1949, until April 1, 1967. Subsequently, he was appointed as an emeritus professor at Kyoto University.
As part of his society activities, he served as secretary of the Japanese Society of Protozoology from its founding in 1967 until 1970. Additionally, he served as conference chair of the Japanese Society of Zoology.
His publications include co-authoring the 1963 book "Color Illustrated Japanese Amphibians and Reptiles" and authoring or co-authoring "Animal Phylogenetics, Volume 9, Part 1B (Reptiles I)" and "Animal Phylogenetics, Volume 9, Part 2B (Reptiles II)," published in 1988.
