Introduction
Zhu Gaosui (19 January 1383 – 5 October 1431) was a prince of the Ming dynasty. He was the third son of Zhu Di, who was then the Prince of Yan, and his primary consort, Lady Xu. Zhu Gaosui was born in Beijing. His birth date is recorded as 19 January 1383.
Zhu Gaosui was involved in military activities during the civil war period of 1399–1402, participating alongside his older brother Zhu Gaoxu. The conflict resulted in Zhu Di ascending to the throne as the Ming emperor. As a result of the power shift, Zhu Gaosui was awarded the title of Prince of Zhao in 1404. The following year, in 1405, he was assigned military command responsibilities in Beijing.
In 1426, Zhu Gaosui participated in a rebellion led by his elder brother Zhu Gaoxu against their nephew, the emperor Zhu Zhandi, known as the Xuande Emperor. His involvement in the rebellion was noted but he was not subjected to punishment, which was likely a measure to maintain political stability.
Zhu Gaosui died on 5 October 1431. Upon his death, his title of Prince of Zhao was inherited by his second son, Zhu Zhanque, who lived from 1413 to 1455. Zhu Gaosui's eldest son, Zhu Zhanba, died in 1427, a few years prior to him. He also had a third son, born in early 1413, who died in infancy.
