Introduction
Kaoruko Koiso (born February 1888, Meiji 21; died May 24, 1950, Showa 25) was a Japanese politician and the wife of Kokichi Koiso. She was from Niigata Prefecture.
Career
Kaoruko Koiso was born in 1887 (Meiji 20) in Kashiwazaki, Echigo Province, as the fifth daughter of the wealthy merchant Yoshikata Makiguchi. She graduated from Niigata Girls' High School (currently Niigata Prefectural Niigata Chuo High School).
In 1907 (Meiji 40), she married Kokichi Koiso, who would later become Prime Minister of Japan. After their marriage, the couple had five sons and two daughters.
In April 1950 (Showa 25), Kaoruko was suffering from a severe illness. On April 25 of the same year, her husband Kokichi Koiso, who was designated as a class A war criminal at the International Military Tribunal for the Far East, was granted temporary leave for 12 hours to visit her in the hospital, marking their last meeting. About a month later, on May 24, 1950, Kaoruko died of sepsis at her home in Kitazawa, Setagaya Ward, Tokyo. Her husband Kokichi Koiso also died later that year, on November 3, from esophageal cancer.
