Introduction
Akira Nakamura (January 19, 1923 – June 7, 2009) was a Japanese businessman. He was born in Niigata Prefecture as the sixth son of Dr. Yasuzo Nakamura and Ki. He graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering at Tokyo Imperial University in 1946.
After entering the workforce, he joined Showa Denko and was appointed director in 1975. In March 1979, he retired from Showa Denko and became president of Showa Power Generation, a subsidiary of Showa Denko. Even after Showa Power Generation was dissolved in March 1988, he continued to serve as an advisor to Showa Denko. He retired from this advisory role in March 1993.
Additionally, in May 1990, he became the chairman of the JIKACON (Japan Independent Power Producers Association) and became a permanent member of its executive committee in March 1996. He resided in Suginami Ward and Chiyoda Ward in Tokyo.
In his personal life, he was married to Hiromi (born August 3, 1928), who graduated from Joshi Gakuin. The Nakamura couple had a daughter and a son. Their eldest daughter was born on September 8, 1954, and graduated from Japan Women's University. Their second daughter was born on August 26, 1956, and graduated from the Faculty of Law at Keio University.
His second daughter, Yoshiko, is married to Shigeru Ishiba, the 28th President of the Liberal Democratic Party and the 102nd and 103rd Prime Minister of Japan.
His career includes roles as an executive at Showa Denko and activities related to independent power generation.
