Introduction
Cui Lijie was born in China and has extensive experience in business investment. In 2013, she gained control of the Hong Kong-listed company First Food (later renamed Bohua Pacific International Holdings Limited) through an acquisition, officially entering the capital market. Following the company's transformation, her main projects have focused on the development of a comprehensive resort on Saipan.
In 2014, Cui Lijie obtained exclusive entertainment operation licenses for Saipan, with plans to develop the island into a complex featuring gaming facilities, hotels, and other entertainment amenities. The project is divided into five phases, with a total investment estimated at no less than 3 billion USD. The first phase includes the Bohua Saipan Resort Hotel, which was positioned as an eight-star hotel, offering 340 rooms and 15 villas, with an original planned opening date in March 2017.
Additionally, members of Cui Lijie’s family have participated in related projects. Her daughter-in-law, Wu Peici, commissioned an art piece called "Chinese Dragon" valued at 4 billion New Taiwan Dollars in 2017, to be used as hotel decor.
Regarding equity holdings, in August 2020, due to her wholly owned company Inventive Star triggering a share pledge clause, Cui Lijie’s ownership stake decreased from 63.47% to 61.93%. In June 2021, Cui Lijie resigned from roles including executive director and chairman of the board of the company, with Xu Zhongxiang succeeding her as authorized representative.
Cui Lijie received the honor of California Honorary Citizen in February 2016 in recognition of her contributions to the economic and cultural development of Saipan. That same year, she was also praised by then-U.S. President Barack Obama. Her Saipan project once attracted cooperation interests from Hollywood and the political-business sectors in Hawaii, but due to multiple factors, the project later encountered financial losses. These developments reflect her significant influence in international business and the tourism industry, as well as the challenges faced along the way.
