Deng Chao was born on February 8, 1979, in Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province, China. His ancestral home is in Nanchang, Jiangxi. His family members include his father, who works as a museum secretary, and his mother, who is a factory official. He is the fourth child in his family, with an older half-sister on his mother's side, an older half-brother on his father's side, and a sister. Deng Chao showed excellent performance from a young age, receiving the title of "Three Good Students" multiple times during elementary school. He loved reading and practiced long jump, short-distance running, and high jump in sports, winning championships in several "Miaomiao Cup" elementary school sports competitions.

During junior high school, Deng Chao's personality changed; he was called a "popular troublemaker," exhibiting rebellious behaviors such as piercing ears, dyeing hair, and participating in school fights, which worried his parents. From 2003 to 2005, Deng Chao gradually shifted towards serious dramas, including leading roles in "Young Kangxi," "The World's Number One," "The Last End of the Ming Dynasty," and "Happiness Like Flowers," showcasing his versatility.
