Introduction
Pu Anxiu was born in Beijing in July 1918. At the age of 17, in 1935, she actively participated in the patriotic student movement "September 18" to resist Japanese aggression and save the nation, which attracted widespread attention domestically and internationally. On November 1, 1935, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China issued a decision regarding youth work based on the current situation, proposing to transform the Communist Youth League into a youth organization with an anti-Japanese and national salvation character. On February 1 of the same year, in response to this decision, the Chinese National Liberation Vanguard was established in Beiping (now Beijing). Pu Anxiu joined this organization and devoted herself to anti-Japanese and patriotic activities. In the same year, she also joined the Chinese Communist Party.
During the War of Resistance Against Japan, Pu Anxiu was dispatched by the Party to front-line areas in Shanxi and Yan'an twice, engaging in armed群众 training and ideological and political work. In April 1938, she arrived in Yan'an, serving as a female officer of the Women's Work Department of the Party General Branch of the Northwest Public School established by the Chinese Communist Party during the Anti-Japanese War, and as a secretary of the training class of the Central Organization Department. In November of the same year, she returned to the front lines in Shanxi to contribute to consolidating the anti-Japanese bases.
From September 29 to November 6, 1938, the Sixth Plenary Session of the Sixth Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party was held in Yan'an. During a gathering, Pu Anxiu met Vice Commander of the Eighth Route Army Peng Dehuai. Through an introduction by Li Fuchun, Deputy Minister of the Organization Department of the Central Committee, the two established a relationship and married. Subsequently, Pu Anxiu traveled with Peng Dehuai across the north and south, becoming an important companion to him.
In the autumn of 1943, she returned to Yan'an and served as a researcher for the Central Women's Committee. During the War of Liberation, Pu Anxiu participated in land reform work teams in the Shaanxi-Gaan-Ning border area and in northwestern Shanxi, and later worked at the headquarters of the Northwestern Field Army.
After 1949, she held various roles, including deputy secretary of the party committee of state-owned enterprises in the Northwestern bureau, deputy director of the Technical Department of the Textile Industry Ministry, and director of the Wages Department of the Light Industry Ministry. In 1957, she was transferred to Beijing Normal University, serving as the head of the Political Education Department, secretary of the Party branch, and deputy secretary of the university's Party committee.
During the Cultural Revolution, because Peng Dehuai was wrongfully criticized, Pu Anxiu, as his wife, was also implicated, losing her position as deputy secretary of the Party committee and suffering political persecution. After the reform and opening up, with rectifications of wrongful cases, she was reinstated to her original positions and transferred to work at the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China. During this period, she actively assisted in rectifying wrongful convictions, organized historical materials on Peng Dehuai, and chaired the compilation of the book "Peng Dehuai's Self-Narration," published by the People’s Publishing House in July 2007.
Pu Anxiu passed away in Beijing on May 2, 1991, due to illness. Her appearance in film and television was portrayed by Yang Tongshu in the TV series "Marshal Peng Dehuai."
