Magdalena Sibylle Of Saxe-Weissenfels

Magdalena Sibylle, Duchess of Saxe-Weissenfels, was born on 2 September 1648 and died on 7 January 1681. She belonged to the German noble family and was a daughter of August, Duke of Saxe-Weissenfels, and Anna Maria of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Her paternal grandparents were John George I, Elector of Saxony, and Magdalene Sibylle of Prussia.

On 14 November 1669, she married Duke Friedrich I of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg. The couple had eight children, whose names, birth dates, death dates, and marriages are as follows:

1. Anna Sophie was born in Gotha on 22 December 1670 and died in Rudolstadt on 28 December 1728. She married Louis Frederick I, Prince of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt, on 15 October 1691.

2. Magdalene Sibylle was born in Gotha on 30 September 1671 and died in Altenburg on 2 March 1673.

3. Dorothea Marie was born in Gotha on 22 January 1674 and died in Meiningen on 18 April 1713. She married Ernst Ludwig I, Duke of Saxe-Meiningen, on 19 September 1704.

4. Fredericka was born in Gotha on 24 March 1675 and died in Karlsbad on 28 May 1709. She married Johann August, Prince of Anhalt-Zerbst, on 25 May 1702.

5. Frederick II was born in Gotha on 28 July 1676 and died in Altenburg on 23 March 1732. He succeeded as Duke of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg.

6. Johann Wilhelm was born in Gotha on 4 October 1677 and was killed in battle in Toulon on 15 August 1707. He held the rank of General Imperial.

7. Elisabeth was born in Gotha on 7 February 1679 and died of smallpox in Gotha on 22 June 1680.

8. Johanna was born in Gotha on 1 October 1680 and died in Strelitz on 9 July 1704. She was married to Adolf Frederick II, Duke of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, on 20 June 1702.
