Introduction
Takatsukasa Sukehira (鷹司 輔平) was a Japanese court noble during the Edo period, born on March 17, 1739, and deceased on February 8, 1813. He held the position of regent, known as kampaku, from 1787 to 1791.
He was the adopted son of Takatsukasa Mototeru and a member of the Fujiwara clan. Sukehira was a grandson of Emperor Higashiyama and the son of Naohito, Prince Kan'in. Consequently, he was a paternal uncle of Emperor Kōkaku. Adoption among families within the Fujiwara clan was a common practice, and Sukehira's descendants inherited various family names, including Tokudaiji, Kikutei, Hanazono, Kajino, Takachiho, Nakanoin, Sumitomo, Muromachi, Yamamoto, Kitakawara, and Senshū.
During his tenure as kampaku, Sukehira served the imperial court from 1787 until 1791. He had at least one son, Masahiro, who was born to Sukehira through his marriage to the daughter of Mori Shigetaka, the eighth head of Chōshū Domain.
Sukehira died in 1813 at the age of 73.
