Introduction

Consort Qi (1676 – 31 May 1739), of the Han Chinese Li clan, was a consort of the Yongzheng Emperor during the Qing Dynasty. Her personal given name has not been recorded in historical texts. She was born in 1676, and her father was Wenbi, who served as a prefect (知府).

During the Kangxi era (1661–1722), Lady Li entered the residence of Prince Yong of the First Rank, Yinzhen (the future Yongzheng Emperor), either in 1691 or 1694. She became his secondary consort during this period.

Her first recorded child was Princess Huaike of the Second Rank, born on 15 August 1695, who was Yongzheng's second daughter. She had a second child, a son named Hongfen, born on 19 July 1697. Hongfen died prematurely on 30 March 1699. Her third child was another son, Hongyun, born on 19 September 1700, who died at the age of ten on 10 December 1710. Her fourth child was Hongshi, born on 18 March 1704.

Following the death of the Kangxi Emperor, Yinzhen ascended the throne as the Yongzheng Emperor on 27 December 1722. On 28 March 1723, Lady Li was granted the title of "Consort Qi" (齊妃), a rank of the fourth level of imperial consorts.

Consort Qi died on 31 May 1739 and was interred in the Tai Mausoleum within the Western Qing tombs.

Her titles throughout her life included:

- During Kangxi's reign: Lady Li, and later secondary consort from 1691 or 1694.

- During Yongzheng's reign: Consort Qi from 28 March 1723.

In addition to Princess Huaike, her other children included:

- Hongfen, her second son who was born in 1697 and died in 1699.

- Hongyun, her third son, born in 1700 and died in 1710.

- Hongshi, her fourth son, born in 1704 and died in 1727.

She is depicted in popular culture, notably portrayed by Zhang Yameng in the television series "Empresses in the Palace" (2011) and by Li Man in "Palace II" (2012).

References for her biography include the "Draft History of Qing" (Qing Shi Gao), Vol. 214, authored by Zhao Erxun in 1928.
