Zhiguang Li

Li Zuning, born in 1922 and also known as Zhiguang, was from Zhenhai District, Zhejiang Province (now Beilun District, Ningbo). He was the second son of Li Shanxiang. In 1938 he joined the New Fourth Army, following the Zhejiang East Route Column to establish anti-Japanese hinterland bases in eastern Zhejiang. He served as a platoon commander and as an operations staff officer at the headquarters.

In October 1945, after the Zhejiang East Column of the New Fourth Army withdrew north to the Northeast, he was transferred to the Northeast, where he held posts including Director of the Public Security Bureau, Chief of the Customs Section, Education Section Chief of the Police College, and Deputy Director of the Research Office of the Northeast Public Security Department.

During the Northeast Liberation War, he learned of his father’s situation in Jinzhou; through a letter he introduced a reconnaissance agent to Jinzhou and asked his father and his third sister to assist in terrain reconnaissance.

After the war, he served as the division’s Operations Section Chief, participated in the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, and subsequently held the positions of Chief of Staff of a Volunteer Army division and Director of the Northeast Public Security Border Defense Office. After transferring to civilian work, he served successively as Director of the Taiwan Broadcasting Department of the Central People's Radio Station and as a reporter stationed in Hong Kong. He later served as a Standing Committee member of the Central Committee for the Collection of Party History Materials and as its Office Director. After retirement in the 1980s, he continued to engage in Party history research.
