Introduction

Samuel Chatto, born on 28 July 1996 in London, United Kingdom, is a British ceramic artist and a member of the British royal family. He is the son of Lady Sarah Chatto and Daniel Chatto. Lady Sarah Chatto is the daughter of Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon, making Samuel a grandson of Princess Margaret and a grand-nephew of Queen Elizabeth II. As of November 2025, he is 30th in the line of succession to the British throne.

He has a younger brother named Arthur Chatto, with whom he attended Eton College, a prestigious independent boarding school in Berkshire, England.

Chatto pursued higher education at the University of Edinburgh, where he graduated in 2018 with a degree in art history. After completing his university studies, he attended the Royal Drawing School from 2019 to 2020, focusing on developing his skills in drawing and visual arts.

He developed a specific interest in pottery and completed a six-week apprenticeship at North Shore Pottery located in Caithness, Scotland. His engagement with ceramic arts extended further through time spent in Japan, where he learned traditional pottery techniques. He maintains a home studio and sells his ceramic works independently via his personal website. His creations have been showcased at various locations, including a restaurant in Somerset and art galleries in Norway and Japan.

In addition to his artistic pursuits, Chatto trained in yoga, undertaking a six-week course in India in 2019 to complete 200 hours of training to become a certified yoga instructor.

Regarding his involvement with the British royal family, Chatto does not carry out formal royal duties. However, he has participated in several state and family events, including the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, and the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. In 2024, he attended a banquet during the state visit of Japanese Emperor Naruhito to the United Kingdom.

By January 2025, Samuel Chatto was reported to be in a relationship with Eleanor Ekserdjian, an artist who also studied at the University of Edinburgh and has appeared at London Fashion Week.
