Introduction
Konoe Tadafusa (近衛 忠房) was born on September 24, 1838, and died on July 16, 1873. He was a Japanese court noble (kugyō) during the late Edo period (1603–1868). He was the son of Regent Tadahiro and his wife, Shimazu Kyoko.
He did not hold any of the regent positions of kampaku or sesshō during his lifetime. Tadafusa's wife was Shimazu Mitsuko, who was an adopted daughter of Shimazu Nariakira, the eleventh head of the Satsuma Domain.
The couple had a daughter named Konoe Hiroko. She married Tokugawa Iesato, who was the sixteenth head of the Tokugawa family. Hiroko and Iesato had a son, Tokugawa Iemasa, who became the seventeenth head of the Tokugawa clan.
Konoe Tadafusa adopted a son of his father, Tadahiro, named Atsumaro, who was recognized as his heir. After Tadafusa's death at the age of 36, his son Hidemaru was adopted by Tsugaru Tsuguakira, the last daimyō of the Hirosaki Domain.
In addition to his court duties, Tadafusa held several positions within the Shinto religious hierarchy. Notably, he served as the head priest of the Ise Jingū shrine.
