Introduction

Sailhan, son of the Kangxi Emperor of the Qing Dynasty. He was born on February 4, 1671, and died on March 6, 1674, according to the Gregorian calendar. Historical records indicate that he was born on the twenty-fifth day of the twelfth month of the tenth year of Kangxi (1671) and died on the twenty-ninth day of the first month of the thirteenth year of Kangxi (1674). His mother was Rongfei, of the Manchu Ma family, and he held the status of a concubine. At the time of his birth, Emperor Kangxi was eighteen years old in virtual age. Sailhan was the biological elder brother of Yin Zhi (Yun Zhi), both born to the Kangxi Emperor. Due to his early death, Sailhan was not included in the official hierarchy of legitimate or illegitimate princes.

Among the many of Kangxi's sons, Sailhan is unique in that his name has Mongolian linguistic origins. The name was bestowed by Empress Dowager Xiaozhuang, reflecting the traditional practice of using Mongolian elements in naming. Sailhan's lifespan was relatively short, surviving only about four years, with no records of formal governmental or military positions or notable deeds. The gap between his birth and death indicates that his life was among the briefest among the early generation of Kangxi’s sons.

Regarding his family background, aside from his mother’s identity, historical sources do not provide detailed accounts of his parents' personal lives. The genealogical records show that Sailhan was a biological brother of Yin Zhi (Yun Zhi) and related to other siblings sharing the same mother and father, but the specific family arrangement is not elaborated upon in the historical texts. The Qing dynasty genealogical publication "The Four Genealogies of the Imperial Family" records his lineage and naming, but lacks detailed information about his political or military activities and educational background. All the above information is based on existing historical records; no additional public evidence has been found.
