Introduction

Wang Hongwu was the younger brother of Wang Hongwen, a former political figure of the People’s Republic of China. He was born in Kaiyuan Village, Xixin Township, Lvyuan District, Changchun City, Jilin Province, into an ordinary farming family. His father, Wang Guosheng, was a local farmer, and his mother, Wang Yangshi, was known for her cautious and kind nature. The Wang family had been farmers for generations.

Wang Hongwu was two years younger than his elder brother, Wang Hongwen, and bore a close physical resemblance to him. He lived a modest life as a farmer in his hometown, serving at different times as the production team leader and the village security director, responsible for organizing agricultural work and maintaining order in the village.

During the Cultural Revolution, Wang Hongwu helped procure production materials for the village and was respected among the local residents. In 1974, his family planned to build a new house, but it was later demolished after the fall of the ‘Gang of Four.’ Following the end of the Cultural Revolution, his official positions were revoked, and he returned to farming.

Wang Hongwu’s wife was a native of Huanghuatun, Daling Township, Gongzhuling City, Jilin Province. He lived a simple and steady life in the countryside until his passing in 2002, spending his entire life engaged in agricultural work in Kaiyuan Village
