Zhang Chu, also known as Zhang Esheng, was an official in Inner Mongolia. He was the first husband of Qi Qiaoqiao, the daughter of senior CCP leader Xi Zhongxun and the elder sister of Xi Jinping. Together, they had a daughter, Zhang Yannan.
As Qi Qiaoqiao’s former husband, Zhang Chu was therefore Xi Jinping’s former brother-in-law. Their daughter, Zhang Yannan, holds a Hong Kong Special Administrative Region ID card and has been active in the business sector. According to public reports, in 2009 Zhang Yannan invested over 3 million RMB as one of seven shareholders in Beijing Hiconics Drive Technology Co., Ltd., and by 2012 the value of her investment had risen to over 120 million RMB.
Although detailed public records about Zhang Chu’s personal career and official positions are limited, his role as an Inner Mongolian official and his marriage into the Xi family linked him to both political and social networks associated with the family.
