Introduction
Da Qi, Niohuru clan, son of Yingdu, a founding meritorious official of the Qing Dynasty. His lifespan is not recorded. In his youth, he was said to possess talent and martial skills, and he was brought up in the palace alongside Nurhaci. After Da Qi grew up, in 1608, Nurhaci married his fifth daughter to him, establishing his status within the imperial family. In 1613, Nurhaci’s fifth daughter passed away. Afterwards, Da Qi was noted to have been favored and pampered in the court, with a personality that was considered arrogant, which caused friction with the princes. Yingdu thus felt deep anxiety over this situation.
One day, Yingdu summoned his sons to a private villa for a feast. During the drinking, he stood up and ordered his men to arrest Da Qi, accusing him of arrogance and saying: “Is there a father in the world who kills his son? It’s because you, this son, are too proud. If I do not punish you today, you will, in the future, betray the state, bring ruin to the family, and those who oppose it will be bloodstained by this blade!” After Da Qi was taken into a room, he was killed by having his head covered. Following the incident, Yingdu apologized to Nurhaci. Nurhaci was shocked and sighed, saying that Yingdu’s concern for the country was deep, and that the matter was beyond control.
