Introduction
Toyosuke Otawara Tomikiyo (born July 7, 1836—died September 2, 1869) was the 13th lord of the Shimono Otawara Domain. He was born in the Tanba Ayabe Domain; his father was Kuki Ryuto, and his mother was the daughter of Itakura Katsutoshi. His father, Kuki Ryuto, was the 9th lord of the Ayabe Domain.
Born in 1836 in the Tanba Ayabe Domain, Toyosuke inherited the family headship after his grandfather, Otawara Hiromasa, died in 1851 (the 4th year of Kaei). At that time, he was appointed and conferred the court rank of Junior Fifth Rank, Lower Grade, and Hida Governor.

Toyosuke was involved in domain politics and also held posts under the shogunate. From September 1853 to September 1854 (the 6th and 7th years of Kaei), he served as a guard at Sunpu Castle. Furthermore, from August 1858 to 1859 (the 5th and 6th years of Ansei), he served as a guard at Osaka Castle. These roles were duties performed by the domain lord under orders from the shogunate.
In the leap month of August 1862 (the 2nd year of Bunkyu), he was once again appointed as a guard at Osaka but soon fell ill. He died in Osaka on September 2, 1862, at the age of 27.
After his death, his eldest son, Kazukiyo, succeeded the family headship. The lineage of Toyosuke Otawara is traced through his father Kuki Ryuto, mother (daughter of Itakura Katsutoshi), adoptive father Otawara Hiromasa, and adoptive mother (daughter of Kuroda Nagamasa). His formal wife was Saira, the eldest daughter of Otawara Kiyotoku, whom he married. His children include his eldest son, Otawara Kazukiyo, as well as children from the Matsudaira Tadayoshi family.
