Introduction

Princess Aohan, the eldest daughter of Huang Taiji of the Qing Dynasty, was born to Ularanala. She was born on the 12th day of the 3rd month in the 6th year of Tianming (1621). On April 18th of the 7th year of Tiancong (1633), she married Bandi, a Tümedh Borithigit clan banneret of the Aohan Mongol tribes. She was officially titled Aohan Princess. This marriage was an arranged alliance between the Mongol tribes and the Qing Dynasty, intended to maintain border relations and political connections. After the marriage, she was referred to as Aohan Princess within the relevant tribes.

On October 17th of the first year of Chongde (1636), Emperor Taiji bestowed titles upon seven princesses, all of whom were his sisters or daughters and other female relatives. Records state: "Aohan Banner Princess, loved as if she were my own daughter; she should follow proper rituals, and I grant her a formal deed of investiture, appointing her as a Gurilem Princess. Do not regard her as just my daughter, overstepping proper conduct or acting against reason." Based on this, some scholars believe that the Emperor’s firstborn daughter was formally enfeoffed as Aohan Gurilem Princess during this investiture. This account reflects the ceremonies associated with the investiture and clarifies the official status of the princess.

In the first month of the 11th year of Shunzhi (1654), Princess Aohan Gurilem passed away at the age of 34. She was buried on the western bank of the Mengke River in the Aohan Banner, where a mausoleum complex called Gongzhu Garden was built. In the same year, on the 18th day of the second month, the Shunzhi Emperor sent the courtier Sun Yi to offer sacrifices to Princess Aohan Gurilem, indicating her esteemed position and commemorative status within the imperial and tribal relationships.

Liubo Zang, a prince of the Aohan Banner, was a great-grandson of Princess Aohan Gurilem. He was initially married to the seventh daughter of Prince Xian of the Shenqin Palace, Dan Zhen, known as a County Princess. Later, he married Lady Xia, the first daughter of the Duke of the Support State, Baoshou, known as a County General. These family relationships and marriages are recorded in the genealogies and historical documents of the Aohan Banner and the Qing imperial court, serving to establish the bloodline and connections of this princess.
