Introduction
Masako, Princess Takeda (恒久王妃昌子内親王, Tsunehisa Ōhi Masako naishinnō), was born on 30 September 1888 in Tokyo Prefecture, Japan. She was the tenth child and sixth daughter of Emperor Meiji of Japan and Lady Sono Sachiko, who was the fifth concubine of the Emperor. Her initial title during childhood was "Tsune no miya" (Princess Tsune).
Her marriage was arranged with Prince Tsunehisa Takeda, the eldest son of Prince Kitashirakawa Yoshihisa. This connection made Prince Tsunehisa the brother of Prince Kitashirakawa Naruhisa. In March 1906, Emperor Meiji authorized Prince Tsunehisa to establish a new princely house, primarily to provide an appropriate status for his sixth daughter, Princess Tsune.
Princess Masako married Prince Tsunehisa Takeda on 30 April 1908. The union produced two children: a son, Prince Tsuneyoshi Takeda (4 March 1909 – 11 May 1992), and a daughter, Princess Ayako Takeda (4 July 1913 – 3 September 2003). Princess Ayako married Count Sano Tsunemitsu.
Princess Masako died on 8 March 1940 at the age of 51. She was a recipient of the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Precious Crown.
