Introduction
Sir William Earle Welby-Gregory, 4th Baronet, was born on 4 January 1829 and died on 26 November 1898. He was a member of the British Conservative Party.
He was the son of Sir Glynne Welby, 3rd Baronet. His education included attendance at Eton College. In 1847, he matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1846.
Welby-Gregory was elected as a Member of Parliament for Grantham during the general election of 1857. He served as the MP for Grantham until 14 April 1868, when he resigned by accepting the office of Steward of the Chiltern Hundreds. His resignation was intended to enable him to contest a by-election for South Lincolnshire.
He was elected unopposed as the MP for South Lincolnshire on 29 April 1868. He held this parliamentary seat until 20 February 1884, resigning through acceptance of the Stewardship of the Manor of Northstead.
In 1889, Welby-Gregory was appointed as the first chairman of Kesteven County Council, a role he maintained until his death in 1898.
Regarding his personal life, William Welby-Gregory married Victoria Stuart-Wortley in 1863. Together, they had three children.
