Guo Shoushan

Guo Shoushan was born at 7:32 a.m. on November 19, 2010, at Mackay Memorial Hospital in Taipei, Taiwan. He is a Tiger by Chinese zodiac, and at birth weighed 3110 grams and measured 53 centimeters in length. His father is well-known entrepreneur Guo Taiming, and his mother is Zeng Xinying. The name Guo Shoushan was chosen by his father, Guo Taiming, who hoped his son would retain a kind, innocent heart throughout his life; the naming was inspired by the generational use of the character “守” (shǒu). Guo Taiming has also said that he did not choose the name “守成” (Shoucheng) largely because he was concerned it might affect the company’s stock price, and ultimately selected “守善” (Shoushan) during a period of rising share prices.

Guo Shoushan is the first child born to Guo Taiming and his spouse Zeng Xinying after their 2010 marriage. His family also includes his older sister Guo Xiaoru (nickname “Niuniu”), born in 2009, and his younger sister Guo Xiaai (nickname “QQ”), born in 2014. Guo Taiming has publicly stated that his son’s birth deepened his understanding of the meaning of life, prompting him to adjust his working hours to spend more time with his children.

The birth attracted a certain degree of public attention. Lu Zhanggong, the Party Secretary of Henan Province, linked the name “Shoushan” to the famous Yuan dynasty scientist Guo Shoujing and presented a jade long-life lock engraved with the name as a blessing. Additionally, Taiwanese fortune-telling expert Zheng Yayun analyzed Guo Shoushan’s astrological chart as “one in ten thousand,” saying it features a structure of mutual support between wealth and official influence, which suggests the possibility of future achievements in both financial and authoritative realms.

Only one photograph of Guo Shoushan is known, and specific details have not been made public.
