Yang Shangzhi (1911–1993) was from Suining, Sichuan, and was the younger brother of Yang Shangkun, a senior leader of the Communist Party of China and the People’s Republic of China.
In his youth, Yang Shangzhi studied at Chengdu Chengshu United Middle School and later graduated from Jinan University in Shanghai, receiving a solid modern education.
Before the founding of the People’s Republic of China, he served as Director of the Taxation Office in Zhangming County, Sichuan Province, where he worked in local taxation and fiscal administration. After 1949, he transitioned to state enterprises and institutions, working in the Chengdu Railway Bureau and other units, contributing to the construction and development of the new China.
Although not active on the high-level political stage like his elder brother, Yang Shangzhi remained dedicated and conscientious in his own career. Living through both the Republican era and the PRC, he devoted himself to administrative and enterprise work throughout his life. He passed away in 1993 at the age of 82.
