Introduction

Margot Roosevelt, born Margot Roosevelt Barmine on August 13, 1950, is an American journalist specializing in economic and labor issues, currently employed by the Los Angeles Times. She is a great-granddaughter of President Theodore Roosevelt.

Her parents are Edith Kermit Roosevelt and Alexander Gregory Barmine. Her maternal grandfather was Archibald Roosevelt, a son of Theodore Roosevelt. Roosevelt received her early education at the Lycée Français de New York and the École Française Internationale in Washington, D.C. She attended the University of Madrid in Spain and the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Harvard University, then known as Radcliffe College.

Roosevelt's first role in journalism was with the Charlottesville Daily Progress in Virginia. She subsequently worked for the Washington Post for thirteen years, holding various positions: chief environmental correspondent for three years, congressional correspondent in Washington, D.C. for three years, and New York bureau chief for four years. In 1987, she joined Time magazine and was stationed at Time's Paris bureau from 1988 to 1994. Afterward, she moved to Los Angeles to serve as the National Correspondent for Time.

In 2007, Roosevelt became an environmental reporter at the Los Angeles Times. Her work earned her recognition, including being a 2010 National Center for Atmospheric Research Journalism Fellow and a 2010 Climate Media Fellow awarded by the Earth Journalism Network. In 2011, she received the American Meteorological Society's award for "Distinguished Science Journalism in The Atmospheric and Related Sciences."

Beginning in 2012, Roosevelt covered economic news and the Southern California economy for the Orange County Register. She returned to the Los Angeles Times in 2018 to continue her reporting.

In her personal life, Roosevelt was married in 1969 to Ralph Hornblower III. Prior to their divorce in 2000, she was known as Margot Hornblower. The couple had two sons. As of 2009, Roosevelt resided in Sherman Oaks, California.
