Introduction
William Peto (1768–1849) was the father of Samuel Morton Peto (1809–1889), a British politician, building contractor, and railway contractor. Samuel Morton Peto was married to Ann Peto, who was the daughter of Samuel Morton Peto and who died in 1887. Ann Peto's husband was James Alexander Campbell, a Scottish businessman and politician, who was the son of Janet Bannerman, who died in 1873. Henry Campbell-Bannerman, a British Prime Minister from 1905 to 1908, was also a descendant of Janet Bannerman.
