Wen Tuxiu, a native of Meixian in Guangdong Province, was married to He Huanwen, a late Qing dynasty scholar famous for writing petitions to defend rights. He Huanwen was arrested after angering the authorities; to save her husband, Wen Tuxiu sold her property. Afterwards, she operated a tea house in Yongxin and established a private school to educate her children. The couple jointly participated in the revolutionary movement,坚持斗争 amidst the White Terror, demonstrating extraordinary loyalty and courage. In 1936, they moved to Ganzhou; He Huanwen, known as "Zhai Gong," engaged in secret activities. He died of illness in 1938. Subsequently, Wen Tuxiu went to Yan'an to seek support, where Mao Zedong cared for her. She died of illness in 1941 and was buried in Yan'an; later, she was recognized as a revolutionary martyr. Wen Tuxiu and He Huanwen had five children, all of whom followed the revolutionary path: their eldest son, He Minxue, participated in peasant uprisings and Jinggangshan struggles; their eldest daughter, He Zizhen, married Mao Zedong; their second daughter, He Yi, served as the secretary of the Ganzhou County Party Committee; and their youngest son, He Minren, followed the Red Army on the Long March. The Martyrs' Memorial Cemetery for Wen Tuxiu is located in Yan'an, commemorating her and her husband's revolutionary deeds. It has been designated as a key martyrs' memorial site, expressing reverence and remembrance for revolutionary pioneers.
