Consort Zhang

Consort Zhuangyide (莊懿德妃; born 18 October 1448, died 7 August 1497) was an imperial consort of the Ming dynasty, associated with the Chenghua Emperor.

Her personal name has not been recorded in historical texts. She was born in Jiangxi Province to Zhang Jing, who was a member of the Nanjing army, and Lady Gao.

On 31 May 1460, she was selected to enter the inner court of the imperial palace. During her lifetime, she gave birth to three sons of the Chenghua Emperor: Zhu Youbin, born on 26 January 1479, who was later titled Prince of Yi (益王); Zhu Youhui, born on 8 December 1479, who was later titled Prince of Heng (衡王); and Zhu Youpeng, born on 13 October 1484, who was later titled Prince of An (汝王). All three sons survived to adulthood.

Despite bearing three of the emperor's sons, she was not officially recognized as a canonized concubine in the imperial harem during her lifetime. On 15 August 1487, she was granted the title of Consort De (德妃). It is generally believed that her elevation to this title was influenced by the favor of Noble Consort Wan.

Following her death, she was posthumously honored with the name Consort Zhuangyide (莊懿德妃).

Throughout her life, her titles changed with the different reigns. During the reigns of the Zhengtong Emperor (r. 1435–1449) and the Jingtai Emperor (r. 1449–1457), she was known as Lady Zhang (張氏) from 18 October 1448. During the Chenghua Emperor's reign (r. 1464–1487), she held the title of Consort De from 15 August 1487 and was posthumously honored as Consort Zhuangyide from 7 August 1497.

Her children were:

- Zhu Youbin (益端王 朱佑檳), Prince of Yi, born 26 January 1479, died 5 October 1539; the sixth son of the Chenghua Emperor.

- Zhu Youhui (衡恭王 朱佑楎), Prince of Heng, born 8 December 1479, died 30 August 1538; the seventh son of the Chenghua Emperor.

- Zhu Youpeng (汝安王 朱佑梈), Prince of An, born 13 October 1484, died in 1541; the eleventh son of the Chenghua Emperor.
