Ye Zhoushi was the mother of Chinese mainland actor You Benchang and was originally from Suzhou.
She lived with her husband, Ye Yusheng, in Taixian, Jiangsu Province, and raised several children, including You Benchang. In total, the family had three daughters and two sons. You Benchang’s original name was Ye Benchang, but due to family reasons, his surname was later changed to You.
When You Benchang was a child, a fortune teller predicted that he would not live past the age of 13 unless he became a monk. In order to protect their son’s life, Ye Zhoushi and her husband sent him to Fazang Temple in Shanghai at the age of six, where he became a disciple of Master Xingci and was given the Dharma name "Chengpei."
Although there are not many detailed records about Ye Zhoushi’s personal life, as a mother, she played a crucial role in You Benchang’s early years. She not only witnessed her son’s entry into monastic life but also deeply influenced his growth and later achievements.
