Introduction
Guo Taiqiang, born in 1952, is Taiwanese. His education includes attending the evening program at Jianguo High School. He did not enter university directly, instead serving in the military, and later passed the night‑division exam to study in the law department at Chung Hsing University. After completing his studies, he considered taking the bar exam to become a lawyer, but did not pursue it after assessing his own abilities.
He joined Hon Hai Group (Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd., also known as Foxconn) in 1977 at the age of 25. Working in corporate management and technical roles, he gradually rose to the position of group general manager. Guo Taiqiang has a close relationship with his brother Guo Taiming; the two accumulated experience together at Hon Hai. Guo has publicly expressed respect for his elder brother, calling him “the greatest benefactor in my life,” and saying his brother provided the platform and space for development.
In his career, about ten years ago (around 2013) Guo Taiqiang stepped down from his post as general manager of Hon Hai and became chairman of Cheng Uei Precision Industry Co., Ltd. (commonly known as Zhengwei). Zhengwei was founded relatively early and initially focused mainly on manufacturing connectors and cables. At that time the company’s monthly revenue was only RMB 1.7 billion and it used Hon Hai’s factory facilities. Over ten years, under Guo Taiqiang’s leadership Zhengwei underwent a strategic transformation, expanding from a single cable-and-connector manufacturer into fields including wireless communications and consumer electronics.
Under his leadership, the Zhengwei Group achieved revenue of RMB 49.8 billion in 2006, about thirty times its earlier revenue. The number of employees grew from a few hundred to more than 32,000, making it one of the world’s top five mobile phone supply‑chain companies and winning large orders from international giants such as Microsoft and Apple. The company’s market position in the mobile communications industry was significantly strengthened.
Besides business achievements, Guo Taiqiang has been active in industry organizations. He once served as chairman of the Industrial and Commercial Research Association, promoting cross‑strait relations and economic cooperation, including the Three Direct Links across the Taiwan Strait and charter flights during the Lunar New Year. Guo enjoys mountain climbing, and his achievements have often been compared to climbing a mountain—gradually reaching the industry summit.
On the family side, Guo Taiqiang has a daughter, Guo Xiaoyu, who held her wedding on the 27th. The banquet was large in scale but kept low‑key. Guests that day included Bai Bingbing, Kuan Ying, and former Taiwan leader Ma Ying‑jeou. Guo Xiaoyu and her husband had been in a relationship for sixteen years before marrying, and the occasion was warm and touching. Guo Taiqiang spent about RMB 4 million on his daughter’s wedding and hosted friends and relatives.
Additionally, in 2007 Guo Taiqiang became chairman of China Film Co., Ltd. (Zhongying). That year his wife, Luo Yuzhen, was appointed as a board member. He has accumulated extensive experience in industry planning, international exchanges, and corporate management, and is considered one of Taiwan’s important entrepreneurs.
