Introduction

Princess Guluenduan Shunchang, born in 1636 and died in 1650, was the eleventh daughter of Qing Emperor Taizong, Huang Taiji. Her mother was the Consort Yi Jing, Abaga Borjigit. She was born on the twenty-fifth day of the third month of the first year of Chongde (March 25, 1636), during the hour of Wei. She was the elder sister of Heluoshang Prince Bomu Bogor. Initially, she was titled Princess Guluenduan. In December of the fourth year of Shunzhi (1647), she was assigned as a princess consort to Borjigit Garmasounu of the Abahei clan and was married in the lunar month. In July of the seventh year of Shunzhi (1650), at the age of only fifteen, she passed away. Her step-son, later Prince Lüliè Deyasan, took another wife, but it was not until the sixteenth day of the sixth month in the thirteenth year of Shunzhi (1656) that she was posthumously honored with the title “Shang Kar Ma Sounu Efu” (Princess Shanggarmasounu's Efu) and recognized as Princess Guluenduan Shuchang. Official records and genealogical documents indicate that her Efu Garmasounu died in the late Shunzhi period, not in the third year of Kangxi (1664).

The tomb of Princess Guluenduan Shunchang outside Deshengmen in Beijing occupies about one hectare. The burial complex faces south, with a central tomb area covering eight mu (approximately 5,333 square meters). The tomb complex is enclosed by brick walls and features three gates and a small eastern gate. Inside, there is a hall measuring three bays wide and three deep, containing a white jade stone shrine dedicated to the princess. Behind the shrine, a tunnel leads to the underground palace, which originally held a blue-and-white porcelain urna containing her ashes. To the west of the princess’s tomb is the burial site of her descendants, covering about two mu, including her and her Efu’s son, Zhai Sang. On the east side of the tomb complex, there is another separate burial area of about one mu.
